Launch of Black History Month – February 1 at MacKenzie Art Gallery

SACHM invites everyone to the launch of African Canadian/Black History Month at the MacKenzie Art Gallery 3475 Albert St. on February 1 at 7 pm. The Honourable Minister Gene Makowsky will recognize the month of February as African Canadian/Black History Month. Guest speaker is Sgt. Craig Smith, who is a Halifax based author, RCMP sergeant and president of the Black Cultural Society for Nova Scotia. He has written extensively on African-Canadian achievement and he has lectured and conducted presentations on Black Canadian history and policing from a Black perspective across Canada and in the United States. Craig is a published author of four books and several articles including “You Had Better Be White By Six A.M. – The African Canadian Experience in the Royal Canadian Mounted Police” 2nd edition (2014) and Herstory – The African-Canadian Female Experience in the Royal Canadian Mounted Police (2017). Craig’s Keynote address is Herstory & Why Black History Month is still so important in 2018 SCCA dance group will provide entertainment
